About Us

Our Mission

The last decade or so has seen comic books experience a renaissance in popular conscience, thanks mostly to the popularity of comic book-based movies and television shows. As a result, the prices of many comic books have exploded. This is due to lots of buyers seeking out the same hot movie-related book of the month; usually books featuring the 1st appearance of a character appearing in the most recent movie or TV show. It’s a classic case of supply and demand. This sort of behaviour has transformed comic books into a tradable commodity more so now than ever before. But comic books are much more than that.

We at KEY ISSUES Comics believe that comics should be read and enjoyed. That’s not to say that there are no investment-worthy comics. There sure are. Books like Amazing Fantasy #15, Action Comics #1, Detective Comics #27, Hulk #181 and the like. Those are the blue chips of the hobby; they’re culturally significant pop culture items with large mass appeal. Yes, they are collectibles and have an intrinsic monetary value, but they are much more than that. They are a way to unleash one’s imagination, a way to teach people how to read. Therefore, KEY ISSUES Comics does it’s best to provide a great selection of classic comics at fair prices. We want everyone to be able to afford comics so that they can experience the same wonder and joy that I, and many others, have experienced thanks to this amazing medium called comic books.

We hope you’ll share your passion with us and join our growing number of happy customers. We actually love comics too and want to help you find that missing issue!

Our Products

We’re a back issue dealer, which means we sell comics, comics and more comics. We don’t really specialize in any one area since we try and stock books from the Golden Age to present, but our bread and butter is the Copper Age. Collectors can find a healthy selection of TPBs/HCs, graded books and magazines as well. We also carry things like treasury editions, but they tend to “fly off the shelf” as the saying goes. Please send us your want list if you’re looking for anything and we’ll let you know if we have it in stock.

We’re working hard to set up an online store to showcase key issues, sets and other select material, so please drop by regularly for updates.

Favourite Comics: Wolverine (you got a problem with that?), Invader ZIM, Y: The Last Man and Saga. Oh and this one! It’s great because it has lines and the colours were so well done, the artist managed to colour in the line every time… and the story contains great words!

Favourite Writers: I have never been smart enough to learn their names. Is the story good? I like ‘em then.. oh and Vasquez is beautifully odd!

Favourite Artists: Personal favourite cover artist, Joe Quesada for the Canadian variant of Wolverine Origins issue #2

Favourite Characters: Wolverine (we share anger issues though I smile more) and Invader ZIM (“Invaders blood runs marches through my veins like giant radioactive rubber pants!  The pants command me!”).

Bio: By day; a mild mannered 3D modeler, designing airports for flight simulators. By comicon; turns into a super strong hero with the eyes of a hawk. Helping my team leader to lift heavy loads and keeps an eye out for villains.

My knowledge of comic book lore and history is not deep, but I make up for it in a desire to help find the books our customers are searching for. A friendly disposition doesn’t hurt either.

Hobbies: Reading copious amounts of fantasy fiction, playing video games, watching movies and latin style dancing.

Favourite Characters: Spawn, Wolverine, Gambit, Batman, Lobo and The Maxx.

Favourite Writer: Frank Miller.

Favourite Superpower: Mind control (cause you can rule the world, so long as no one KNOWS you rule the world).
